The ASSOCIATION FOR ACCREDITATION OF ARCHITECTURAL EDUCATION, or MiAK, was established as of 10.09.2019. Having carried out its activities in cooperation with the Chamber of Architects of TMMOB under the name of "Architecture Accreditation Board" between 2006-2019, it gained its independent structure under the umbrella of the Association as of 2019.
MiAK's major goal is to improve the quality of architectural education by accrediting, externally evaluating, and conducting briefing studies on architectural education programs. Thus, it seeks to enhance social welfare, the better natural, and the built environment through better architectural services.
MiAK aims to ensure the development of the architectural profession through education and to evaluate and improve architectural education through competency studies by collaborating with official institutions related to education and developing suggestions.
MiAK aims to provide inclusivity and participation in the formation of its members, management staff, all boards and teams and/or in the realization of their activities, by providing wide representation of stakeholders such as educators, academicians, students, graduates, employers, and professional organizations.
MiAK aims to increase the quality of education by contributing to the accreditation of other design-related education programs (interior architecture, industrial design, city and regional planning, etc.) as well as architecture programs under its corporate structure.
MiAK's activities are as follows:
- Processes and conditions related to the accreditation of architectural education programs; preparing, updating and publishing documents on institutional quality policy, visiting team guide, etc.
- Evaluating and accrediting programs upon the application of institutions providing architectural education,
- Selection of evaluators to take part in accreditation studies and to carry out their training,
- To inform and train program administrators and faculty members about program evaluation,
- To ensure that program evaluation criteria are determined, and that evaluation criteria and processes are reviewed and renewed when necessary, by constantly monitoring the current and future needs of the stakeholders of architectural programs.
