2024 Audit Report



1. MiAK AND MiAK-MAK MEETING MINUTES 


Documents and reports pertaining to all of MiAK’s activities, including accreditation processes and outcomes, are archived in accordance with the procedures set out in the “MiAK Archiving Directive.” 


2. ACCREDITATION DECISIONS


Of the programs that applied for accreditation in 2022, site visits for 7 were completed in 2023. Accreditation was granted in 2023 to 6 programs whose applications dated from 2019 and 2020 but whose processes had been postponed due to the pandemic and other reasons.

3. EVALUATION PROCESS DOCUMENTS FOR AT LEAST TWO PROGRAMS


The MiAK-MAK 2023 Accreditation Processes Document, the 2024 MiAK Consistency Committee Directive, which defines working procedures in a comprehensive manner, and the establishment of the MiAK Consistency Committee are important in terms of preventing potential inconsistencies in accreditation decisions.


The Visiting Team Final Reports of two accredited programs were reviewed: one that received a “6-Year” accreditation decision (Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University, Bachelor of Architecture Program) and another that received a “2-Year Supervised” accreditation decision (Başkent University Architecture Program [30% English]). The fact that the MSGSÜ Architecture Program earned 6-year accreditation due to its prior accreditation experience, well-conducted preparations, large academic staff, well-structured curriculum and design studios, physical spaces that contribute to a learning culture and collaborative environments with other departments of the unit, alongside the 2-year accreditation granted to Başkent University’s Architecture Program due to relatively low number of academic staff, elective courses dependent on part-time faculty, insufficient emphasis on certain topics in the curriculum, the inability to demonstrate these in information packages, and insufficient establishment of collaborative environments with other departments, was found to be consistent within the framework of the “MiAK-MAK Processes Document” and MiAK-MAK Conditions Document.”
